TARGET AUDIENCE:
Federal, state and local emergency public safety, law enforcement, emergency response, nurses, emergency medical (including hospital emergency facilities), and related personnel, agencies, and authorities.

FOCUS: Define terrorism including what terrorism is (and is not), understand the history of terrorism, define and give examples of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs), describe types of harm and protective measures, and be familiar with considerations when preparing for a terrorist attack.

FACULTY/PRESENTERS:
Glyn Caldwell, M.D. Dr. Caldwell was previously the state epidemiologist. Dr. Caldwell is currently teaching, "Public Health Response to Terrorism and Disasters" at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Caldwell is involved with the Kentucky State-wide Bioterrorism Committee.
Kathy Adams, RN, BSN from Eastern Kentucky University. Ms. Adams has reviewed numerous terrorism response and preparedness courses developed at the University of Kentucky.

OBJECTIVES: Define terrorism and weapons of mass destruction, understand the history and motives for terrorism, list several incidents that have been important to the U.S., list five types of weapons described by the acronym "CBRNE", describe the basic characteristics of each of the five weapons, describe the six types of harm the can result from WMD use, describe some common protective measures for dealing with WMDs, understand the social, econimic and political implications of terrorism, describe strategies for preventing terrorism, and understand the process for developing a terrorism response plan.
