Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center
State Injury Surveillance Program - Injury-related ED visits

In 2001, we estimate that between 400,000 and 500,000 Kentuckians were treated and released from emergency departments in the U.S. as a result of injury. This estimate is based on data from the CDC's WISQARS non-fatal injury system, which in turn is based on the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System All Injury Program (NEISS-AIP).

Kentucky does not currently have a statewide emergency department data collection system. The tables below provide an overview of injury-related ED vists for 2001 for the United States, by mechanism and manner of injury.
